Managing the Role of the SENCo

Module 1: Managing Policy and Practice (4 days)

Module 1 aims to develop the SENCo's skills as an effective and efficient manager of the school's provision for pupils with special educational needs. A whole school approach underpins this module and throughout examples of good practice, policy and organisation are drawn from the independent sector for critical examination. The Module 1 flyer and booking form will be available spring 2011

Part One - October 2011

Part 1 focuses on understanding and then interpreting the statutory frameworks for SEN and disability for implementation within an independent school context. In doing so it will seek to clarify jargon, dispel a few myths and help to prioritise work. Above all it will encourage participants to acknowledge and accept the role of the SENCo as a key manager working across the whole school.

Part Two - March 2012

Part 2 explores the managerial and personal skills required to be an effective manager. Participants will be offered a fascinating insight into their management style as well as a host of practical strategies, suggestions and support to enable the busy SENCo to cope with the pressures of the job.

Accommodation: Uplands - Set amidst beautiful Chiltern countryside and landscaped gardens overlooking the Hughenden Valley, Uplands combines a classical mansion house with purpose built contemporary buildings. With 18 acres of grounds to explore, you're bound to be inspired.

If you require accommodation at Uplands, we shall give you a booking reservation ID once your booking is confirmed. This will enable you to book either the £TBC (B&B) or the £TBC (Dinner, B&B) - they will take a credit card number to guarantee the rooms only - payment will then be made on departure.
