Stanbridge Earls School
A partner in learning...

Stanbridge Earls School, in Romsey, Hampshire, has been awarded the highest rating of schools for dyslexic pupils - Specialist Provision status. Stanbridge offers pupils help for Dyslexia, Dyspraxia, Dyscalculia and other specific learning difficulties. This CReSTeD rating is the "gold standard" and results from a detailed inspection having been carried out to ensure that Stanbridge complies with CReSTeD's high standards for meeting dyslexic pupils' educational needs, upgrading Stanbridge from CReSTeD's second-level Dyslexia Unit category.
Specialist Teaching
Specialist dyslexia teaching is being integrated throughout the whole school: Stanbridge is training some of its mainstream staff in special educational needs and would prefer any new recruits to hold SEN qualifications. Specialists from the learning centres are now teaching some mainstream classes such as Science, English and Maths, and more teaching staff expect to hold qualifications.
Understanding Literacy & Numeracy Problems
It is Stanbridge Earl's experience that dyslexic pupils are likely to experience difficulty with both Literacy and Numeracy; pupils are presented with complex combinations of these difficulties and by having the expertise on site they are able to tailor programmes to suit individual student's needs.
Specialist Maths Qualifications
Previously, specialist Maths qualifications were difficult to access. However, they are now becoming a reality as a result of the teacher training courses delivered by Learning Works, in partnership with Stanbridge Earl's School. Teachers in Stanbridge's Maths Learning Centre are the flag bearers - taking advantage of studying for a qualification which is the first of its kind.
Stanbridge Earls School is a small, caring day and boarding school for girls and boys aged 10 to 19 who cannot cope in the normal large school environment. It has an excellent teacher/pupil ratio of 1:7. Students are taught a full range of academic, practical and vocational courses, from entry level to Advanced Level GCSE's, including preparation for University entry, along with sports and physical education.
